Boozers spent 77 crore on New Year in Telangana

New Year revellers consumed liquor worth Rs 77 crore as they welcomed the New Year in Telangana. There are 2,216 retail liquor outlets besides scores of bar and restaurants in the state. “Retailers lifted Rs 77 crore worth of liquor on New Year’s eve which indicates huge consumption. We cannot assess sales across counters. But our information is that the sales were pretty good,” said Excise department commissioner Dr R.V.  Chandravadan.

Most of the sales were recorded from the populous Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts. Revenue from liquor has touched Rs 9,277 crore so far in the ongoing financial year. The target is Rs 12,000   crore.
