We will ban Liquor – YS Jagan

10 July 2017

Apart from announcing that he will doing a ‘Padhayatra’ just like his father, YSR CP Boss YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced that he will make Andhra Pradesh state liquor free once he comes to power. YSR Congress Party has virtually released election manifesto for 2019 elections.  Delivering the valedictory address at the YSRC’s two-day plenary at Nagarjuna Nagar on Sunday, YS Jagan Mohan reddy said that liquor prohibition would be enforced in 3 phases. Complete eradication of belt shops (unauthorized vends in villages), followed by a vigorous campaign listing the ills of liquor consumption. “Simultaneously, we will increase liquor prices to such a level that only crorepatis will be able to buy it. And then we will ban liquor completely in the state,” YS Jagan said.

YS Jagan accused Chandrababu Naidu of betraying the state. He announced schemes like YSR Rythu Bharosa, Amma Vodi, increase of social pension amounting to Rs.2,000 per month, Arogyasri rejuvenation, total fee reimbursement and completion of Jalayagnam projects.

Many political analysts say YS Jagan’s liquor ban decision is immature. For states like Andhra Pradesh most of the revenue is from Liquor sales, liquor ban will only lead to more revenue to neighboring state, Telangana. It would also lead to illegal transportation of Liquor in state and eventually there won’t be much effect by liquor ban. Instead many say ‘Liquor Control’ should have been the word YS Jagan should use.
