The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to bring the Godavari Water to Visakhapatnam city at the earliest. Government has completed the proposal with an estimated cost of 1,638 cores. A cabinet meeting held on Friday to finalize the proposal. This is a pretty similar plan to Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme were river water is directed from Godavari to Krishna Delta. This time, the Godavari River water will be lifted from the left bank of River near the village, Purushothapatnam at East Godavari District and fill up the Yeleru reservoir through the Polavaram project’s main canal.
Once this lift irrigation project is completed, a 3,500 cusecs of Godavari river water could be taken to Yeleru reservoir. This minimizes the water scarcity what Vizag city is currently facing. As per the official sources, this lift irrigation will be designed to provide 23.4 TMC if water to Visakhapatnam and also out of which also will be able to produce a 960 megawatt of electricity.
