DadaSaheb Phalke Award to K Viswanath

Veteran Director Kasinathuni Viswanath is going to be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award for the year 2016. DadaSaheb Phalke award is given by Government of India to the individuals for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema. Information and Broadcasting Minister, M Venkaiah Naidu has approved the K Viswanath candidature recommended by the Dadasaheb Phalke Award committee.

 

President of India, Pranab Mukherjee will present this award to K Viswanath on May 3rd at Vigyan Bhawan. The award consists of a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus), a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh and a shawl.

 

K Viswanath aged 87, was born on 19th February 1930 in Gudivada, Andhra Pradesh. He has till now won 20 Nandi Awards, 10 Film fare awards and 5 national awards.  He was conferred Padma Shri award in year 1992. K Viswanath has provided story, screenplay and directed many movies. Shakarabharanam and Sirivennela will always be India’s most memorable classics. His National Award-winning film Swati Mutyam was India's official entry to the 59th Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category. K Viswanath has stopped directed films from 2010. His last film was Subhapradam. He acted in mainstream films. His younger cousin, Chandra Mohan is a renowned actor. The legendary playback singer SP Balasubramaniyan is also his cousin.
