Vizag in top 10 cleanest cities in India

The Government of India has released the list of 73 cleanest cities with over 10 lakh population. The survey was conducted under Swachh Bharat Mission and is called 'Swachh Survekshan 2016'. The survey covered 476 cities in India.

Mysuru in Karnataka topped the list again this year as the cleanest city, while Chandigarh ranked second, followed by Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu) at the third spot. Dhanbad (Jharkhand) ranked the dirtiest city, according to the survey, followed by Asansol (West Bengal) and Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh).

A release issued by the urban development ministry said that the objective of the survey was to measure the scenario regarding sanitation in selected cities, efforts made by these cities to improve sanitation through necessary strategies, to assess the impact of Swachh Bharat Mission and to promote a spirit of healthy competition among cities.
